Volunteer Spotlight
Lillian "Joyce" Rowe has been volunteering with
Citrus United Basket (C.U.B.) for over 14 years. A
native of Bayonne, NJ, Joyce was born in the
family home - a home that was built on stilts
over the water! She has no problem telling
people her age. At 77 years young, Joyce is as
spunky as most people who are 20 years younger.
Joyce chose to become involved with C.U.B.
after her husband begged her to, "go find
something to do." She was driving her husband
crazy from her own boredom following retirement
from 3M, and she has one of those type "A"
personalities that likes to be busy.
C.U.B.
is both blessed and grateful that she chose to
continue with us as a volunteer. Joyce, said
that working alongside other volunteers, and
assisting with clients and customers is her
favorite thing about volunteering at C.U.B..
Joyce keeps busy by keeping our work areas
clean and hazard free, she places clothing
donations in their designated areas throughout
the store, and washes donated items that will be
sold in the household section.
C.U.B. Board
Members, staff and volunteers at Citrus United
Basket thank Joyce for all the hours that she
has dedicated to C.U.B.. We hope that she will
continue to grace us with her presence and
passion. Thank you Joyce!

Volunteer Spotlight
Citrus United Basket is proud to have Joan Allan as a member of our volunteer staff. Joan has been meeting and greeting new and former clients to the food pantry since January 2001. Her endearing smile helps clients to feel welcome - especially when they visit for the first time. Joan creates and updates client database records and ensures that each family is properly cared for.
Joan was employed as a Secretary for the United Methodist Church for 19 years prior to her permanent move to Inverness in 2005. She is an active member in the choir, does volunteer work and works with youth members of the church whenever needed on a regular basis.
Joan has also asked to share with you that, "Volunteer activities help me cope with my Parkinson's Disease, scoliosis, neuropathy and other ailments." And that, "People who are physically challenged can be dedicated and hard working volunteers. There is a great satisfaction in helping others who are less fortunate." She always offers empathy and a cordial welcoming sense of cheer to all.
C.U.B. Board Members, staff and volunteers welcome her smile - she is truly an inspiration to us all. Thank you Joan for all you do. We love and appreciate you!
